Each year I have my second year art students create a black and white, charcoal portrait.  I have them do a number of  a skill building exercises to prepare for the portrait.  I provide each student with a set of different grades of charcoal pencil plus white.  When they start the portrait, I add a variety of black and grey soft pastels.

Teaching during Covid has been a challenge.  I am fortunate to have a large classroom but it is filled up with students and supplies.  In order to distance students I have had to eliminate desks and sit two students per desk.  I hung 24" x 36" sheets of plexiglass from the ceiling halfway over the desks. I invested in lots of small carts to hold supplies spaced out all over the classroom.
