MEETING THE ARTIST, ESTER ROI
Ester Roi and I at the Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts
One of the many joys of traveling is meeting other artists. Sometimes I stumble into artists who's work I've admired and even used as inspiration for units in my classroom.
During our wonderful time spent at the Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts I found the colored pencil artist, Ester Roi. I first noticed ester's work on the cover of Colored Pencil Magazine.
An Issue of Colored Pencil Magazine Featuring Ester's Work
Ester's exhibit was amazing and included details about her drawing process. She uses a combination of colored pencils and oil pastels. She has invented a heat table that will melt the waxy medium so they easily blend together. Then she can slide her drawing to another, cool section of the table to do details and intricate line work.
Ester was a joy to visit with and talked extensively about her techniques. Her heat/cool table is called (appropriately) an Icarus Art Drawing Board and can be seen here http://icarusart.net/products.html
